Bring More Magic to Kids in Hospitals

There are several ways to get involved:

Run for CharityRun for CharityRun for CharityRun for Charity

Run for charity in team-supported races like the Bank of America Chicago Marathon, the Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle 8K, Chicago Triathlon or compete in a special event. Tackle a half-marathon or take on your own personal challenge.

Whatever you choose, your hard work will make a tremendous difference in the lives of kids in hospitals.

Be a Hero for Kids! Run for Charity. Take on an athletic challenge.

Your hard work will help bring magic and smiles to thousands of kids and their families at their bedsides and help grow programs at ten hospitals in the Chicago area in 2015.The funds raised by the Charity Team will fund expansion to new hospital partners and allow for significant growth – which means we get to see more kids. With an increase in Charity Team members, we’ll be able to see over 9,000 kids in 2015 up from 7,700 in 2014. Your participation will have a huge impact.

Our runners and athletes come from all walks of life. From serious Crossfit athletes & marathoners to first time
runners who want to run for charity, they all make the choice to be awesome.

When you join the team and run for charity, your efforts will help kids and their families at the following hospitals:

  • Advocate Children’s Hospital – Oak Lawn
  • Advocate Children’s Hospital – Park Ridge
  • Alexian Brothers Women’s and Children’s Hospital
  • Central DuPage Hospital
  • Lurie’s Children’s Hospital
  • Northwest Community Hospital
  • NorthShore Evanston Hospital
  • Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago
  • Rush University Medical Center
  • University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital

About OHM

Open Heart Magic has pioneered an innovative way to reach children who are being treated for serious illness through the surprise, excitement and wonder of magic performed at their hospital bedside.

Our personalized interactions help children feel special, more confident and empowered during a scary and stressful time. By inviting them to be a part of the interaction, we energize kids and help them find the strength they need to heal. Because our Bedside Magic performances are one-on-one, we’re able to work with kids of all ages, regardless of physical or developmental restrictions. Our performances benefit the parents and siblings of these patients who are experiencing stress as well.

Open Heart Magic has seen incredible growth since it’s inception in 2004. The community of rock star volunteer magicians has grown drastically. In 2012 there were 38 magicians. And beginning in 2015, there are 104 magicians changing the hospital experience across Chicago. OHM Hospital Magicians provided over 7,700 one-on-one Bedside Magic performances to kids and their families in 2015. In the next year we plan to add over 20 Hospital Magician’s so that we can see over 9,000 this year.

What kids go through and how Open Heart Magic helps

By joining the team, the funds you raise will ensure Hospital Magicians can continue reaching thousands of sick kids each year. These kids face tough situations while in the hospital and our Hospital Magicians are specially trained to help them during that critical time when they need magic most. The video will give you an inside look into what it’s like to be a sick kid in the hospital.

Donate or Sponsor a Runner
