There are several ways to get involved:
Run for charity in team-supported races like the Bank of America Chicago Marathon, the Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle 8K or Chicago Half-Marathon or compete in a special event. Tackle a triathlon or take on your own personal or team challenge.
Whatever you choose, your hard work will make a tremendous difference in the lives of kids in hospitals.
Be a Superhero for Kids! Run for Charity. Take on an athletic challenge.
Your hard work will help bring magic and smiles to thousands of kids and their families at their bedsides and help grow programs at nine hospitals in the Chicago area in 2013.The funds raised by the Charity Team will fund expansion to new hospital partners and allow for significant growth – which means we get to see more kids. With an increase in Charity Team members, we’ll be able to see over 4,500 kids in 2013 up from 3,500 in 2012. Your participation will have a huge impact.
Our runners and athletes come from all walks of life. From serious Crossfit athletes & marathoners to first time
runners who want to run for charity, they all make the choice to be awesome.
When you join the team and run for charity, your efforts will help kids and their families at the following hospitals:
- Lurie’s Children’s Hospital
- University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital (new program 2012)
- Advocate Christ Hope Children’s Hospital
- Rush University Medical Center
- Advocate Lutheran General Children’s Hospital
- NorthShore Evanston Hospital
- Central DuPage Hospital
- Northwest Community Hospital
- Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (new program 2013)
About OHM
Open Heart Magic has pioneered an innovative way to reach children who are being treated for serious illness through the surprise, excitement and wonder of magic performed at their hospital bedside.
Our personalized interactions help children feel special, more confident and empowered during a scary and stressful time. By inviting them to be a part of the interaction, we energize kids and help them find the strength they need to heal. Because our Bedside Magic performances are one-on-one, we’re able to work with kids of all ages, regardless of physical or developmental restrictions. Our performances benefit the parents and siblings of these patients who are experiencing stress as well.
Open Heart Magic has seen incredible growth since it’s inception in 2004. The community of rock star volunteer magicians has grown drastically. In 2012 there were 38 magicians. And beginning in 2013, there are 60 magicians changing the hospital experience across Chicago. OHM Hospital Magicians provided over 3,500 one-on-one Bedside Magic performances to kids and their families in 2012. In the next 3 years we plan to more than double the number of Hospital Magician’s to over 150 so that we can see 10,000 kids per year by 2016.
